TOMMY SPARKS (YUKSEK REMIX) + NEW COUNT & SINDEN PARTY

Got some more new goodies to give out.

First up, YUKSEK has a new remix out of new artist TOMMY SPARKS. I'm fairly new to this guy, but apparently, he has a debut album coming out early next year on Electric Eyeball. I've liked what I've heard thus far, but they aren't sharing much... yet.

The YUKSEK remix, on the other hand, is brilliant. One of his best productions yet. He even took time out from recording his own debut full length to do it (can't wait for that).

TOMMY SPARKS - I'M ON A ROPE (YUKSEK REMIX)

Also, on an entirely different note, THE COUNT & SINDEN have a new party called MEGA MEGA MEGA. If you live near it, I imagine it's something you probably don;t wanna miss out on.

CLUBFEET

PLANT MUSIC just unleashed yet another great record. This time it's by Australian act CLUBFEET.

I haven't heard much else from this band, but I rather like this track. It makes me think of a lot of my favorite late 80's/early 90's pop culture and subculture favorites. Things like 'Heathers', 'Pump Up The Volume' and being in High School (mine had the highest suicide rate in the state). It's also just a nice, soft pop song with an ironic twist, just the stuff the critics love. Check it.

Subtle and Zach Hill Tonight

It's not often when I get to say "man, you have gotta be at the knitting factory tonight," but for the sake of venues knowing what's up tonight is one of those nights. If you make your way out to Hollywood you not only have the chance to see Subtle, but Zach Hill as well and as far as music goes this is like listening to "Flight of the Valkyries" pre-Apocalypse Now. So close ableton, get your ass off your mac, and hop into your car or the worsening public transporation system towards The Knitting Factory. This will be Subtle's very last tour for a long time as they're going on hiatus so don't miss it! I don't mean to downplay Zach Hill at all either so forgive me, he's only one of the most innovative drummers that we should be so lucky to receive solo. MySpaces are here and here.

In New York news, Fake Blood will arrive December 12 at Studio B. Spanish musician el Guincho will be here this Tuesday, December 2 at Le Poisson Rouge with SF's Lemonade - go here for free tickets. Sebastien Grainger and Snowden are at The Mercury Lounge on Wednesday. And Friday brings us many friends of IHC - LA Riots, Tittsworth, Klever and BM Linx are at Le Poisson Rouge, Passion Pit and Red Foxx are at Glasslands, Fang Island opens for Chairlift and Yeasayer at The Music Hall of Williamsburg, Aa, Dinowalrus and Say No! to Architecture are at Death by Audio and Rumspringa is at The Delancey. Hope everyone ate their weekend's share this giving"recession"thanks weekend.

MERCY SPARX - A NEW COMIC BOOK (THAT I MAKE A CAMEO IN)

My friends over at DEVIL'S DUE PUBLISHING recent launched a new comic book called MERCY SPARX. It's a fun 3 Issue Mini-Series about a Devil Girl hired by heaven to take down angels. Typically this type of story isn't my thing as I'm more a big tits, big pecks superhero kind of guy or wimpy, introspective indie comics type of guy, but with this, writer JOSH BLAYLOCK, nails it. It's campy, fun, a little dirty, a little sexy and right up the alley for anyone that likes comics as much as music. The description for issue #1 reads like this:

"Find out how Mercy Sparx, a Devil Girl hired by the big shots in Heaven to secretly take down rogue angels, got to Earth. Serendipity, a muse turned DeeJay battles it out with our unlikely heroine. It's either succeed and get a free pass through the pearly gates, or fail and risk going somewhere much worse."

If you're into it, check the pages below and click the link to download issue #0 FREE. Also, make sure to keep your eye out for my cameo in issue #2!

BUFFET LIBRE: REWIND 2 - 80'S REMIX / COVER PROJECT

Our friends over at BUFFET LIBRES have been working hard on Part 2 of their 80's rewind Project. They've recruited a bunch of the most exciting up & comers from the blog-o-sphere to either cover, remix or rework their favorite 80's jams. What they've come up with is a fun collection of songs that makes so much sense it's a bit unreal (seeing as how so much of the current crop derives a lot of their sound from the 80's).

You can get the whole thing from over at the BUFFET LIBRE site, but in the meantime, here are 3. My personal fave is the cover of the theme song from Neverending Story!

CANADIANS (Feat. CHERIELYNN WESTRICH) - NEVERENDING STORY (GIORGIO MORODER COVER)

THE ROCK STEADY CREW - HEY YOU (JUSTIN FAUST REMIX)

ROBIN GIBB - JULIETT (CATCOMPLEX REMIX)

GALACTIC BOYS

This is one of those I got in the mail. GALACTIC BOYS are a German duo (?) that make sweet pop music that is reminiscent of the 80's. There sound definitely puts them in a similar category as FUTURECOP!, but they are distinct enough on their own to deserve their own acclaim. While FUTURECOP! takes a dreamier approach, GALACTIC BOYS have a bit more of a pop sensibility. I kind of really like this too because, at least to me, it seems distinctly un-German for being from Germany. Check them out for yourselves. Here's 2 tracks:

IHEARTCOMIX US TOUR: San Francisco

iheartcomix 1
Franki Chan

We rolled into SF and I immediately remembered how much I love shooting 35mm on the streets of downtown San Fran! Seriously, there are sooo many crazy interesting people and scenes going on. I’d been lugging my Nikon FM2 along with me the whole trip but hardly even used it until we got to the last freaking city. Oh well.

Franki, Toxic & I headed out to eat at some delicious Indian joint near the hotel. Fernanda, mi amiga nueva, came out and met up with us and then we went out looking for adventure. There was a nerd gathering of about 200 kids outside the Game Stop. They were all waiting for the new WoW to come out I guess. We went and tired to go ice skating but had no luck so went back to the hotel for “wine hour.” Some cute fresh-off-the-boat Japanese woman served us with a smile while annoying older white dudes hit on her non-stop. Finally after a few hours of surfing YouTube for French hip hop videos, we headed to Vessel for the show.

The show was mostly fun albeit a little slower that it could've been. Sleazemore opened up and it was good to see him and the gang again. A small group of us headed back to the hotel to have some more fun and the dude at the door pleaded with us that they had a strict no party policy. Ok Ok, we say. We got away with our little gathering for at least 30 minutes until the dude came up and broke it up. And that was that. Simon had to wake up at like 6am to catch his flight back to Paris and luckily we called for a wake up call because I don’t think my alarm even went off. Au revoir! C’est la vie!
