Back before I got all this IHEARTCOMIX stuff going, I was just a kid from Bloomington, IN. In 1996 I moved back from a brief stint in Okinawa to Indiana and had a burning desire to be a drummer in a band. I saw a flyer around town of a band that needed a drummer that also included a ton of punk rock qualifiers. I thought they looked perfect and I tried out. I made it. That band was OPERATION: CLIFF CLAVIN and they became the next 3 years of my life and is a legacy I have yet to overcome.
The captain of the band was Chris Clavin or Chris Johnston depending on who you asked. He owned our record label, PLAN-IT-X RECORDS, and he was always putting out all these other rad bands. 10 years later, PLAN-IT-X was 10 years old and had become the quintessential label for DIY punk. The not only kept up with their morals and stance from the beginning, but fought for them steadfastly and managed to put out some great records along the way. They through a festival in Bloomington, IN to celebrate. The festival turned into a yearly thing for about 3 years and now, the legacy has turned into a documentary.
Here's the trailer for the film that will expose not just the history of PLAN-IT-X, but in a lot of ways, will expose the history and roots of the growing DIY scene that exists in the USA today. :)
